How did Don Quixote’s meals taste like? Or its author for that matter? And the aristocracy’s favourite wine? What could you find in the Royal Palace’s shop list?

Find about it within the unmatchable background of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, which was the centre of the world at the peak of the Spanish Empire, and required recipes in that proportion.

Now that talking about “traditional dishes” means talking about the recipes of the 40s, Gourmet Madrid goes back 400 years, and rescues recipes from royal cook’s best seller cookbooks. Roasted torrezno, letuario, white delicacy, mighty pot, albillo wines… are the “What” in the food department, but you will also learn about the “How” and “Why” of the many ingredients, traditions and literature of that time.

A nice day in the 17th century

 Optional:

  •  Transportation from Madrid,
  • Visit to the interior of the Monastery,
  • Breakfast/aperitif at the gardens around “La Casita del Príncipe” (the heir’s palace), 18th century.
