Toledo

el-greco-el-entierro-del-conde-orgaz1Toledo is the capital of Castilla-La Mancha and it is also the imperial city. La Mancha is one of the emerging wine regions in Spain starting to produce high quality wines.

Toledo is 20 minutes driving from Madrid, in the way of two emerging wine regions, La Mancha and Valdepeñas.

 This tour combines the introduction to the wines of La Mancha with the historical city of Toledo where everything is represented: culture, gastronomy, art and tradition. It includes the following: 

  • Departure from Madrid in the morning.
  • Guided tour around Toledo, the city of the three cultures.
  • We´ll have lunch in Toledo, in a typical restaurant or in a Bodega.
  • We will visit one or two of the outstanding bodegas, 40 minutes away from Toledo, that produces very good reds. The visit will include a walk through the vineyards, an explanation of how the wine is made in the winery, a cata or tasting of all the different wines produced there.
  • Return to Madrid in the afternoon. 

Toledo is the city of the three cultures, Christian, Jewish and Islamic, and it is full of history, tradition and art. It was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. Food and wine are main characters in the life of Toledo, which is well known for the quality of its cuisine, and the typical offerings produced in this area: cheese of La Mancha, olive oil, marzipan and saffron. In Toledo you will enjoy a cata or wine tasting commented by an expert and followed by a gourmet dinner with exclusively selected wines. You will also have time to shop in its multiple little stores all kind of Spanish artesanía (hand crafted items).

 mazapan-La Mancha is the homeland of Don Quijote, the knight of the sad figure created by Cervantes, one of the most famous Spanish writers. In this tour we will follow his steps through this area that is now starting to produce good quality wine after years of massive production. In Valdepeñas, we will have the opportunity to see wine being made in tinajas, big earthmade jars, like in in Roman times.
